Wednesday, March 20, 2024, 7 to 8:30 pm by zoom
Co-sponsors:   Broome-Tioga, Cortland, and Steuben-Chemung chapters of the League of Women Voters, Campaign for Renewable Energy, Fossil Free Tompkins, People for a Healthy Environment, and Sustainable Finger Lakes

Years ago, the health and environmental problems created by high volume hydraulic fracturing led to a statewide ban on fracking with water. What might happen if CO2 were used?

Surprisingly, a company known as Southern Tier Solutions, has proposed to drill into the Marcellus Shale of New York using compressed carbon dioxide to extract gas. Many landowners in Chemung, Tioga and Broome counties have already signed leases giving permission to do so. What might be the consequences?

In Satartia, MIssissippi, there has already been one pipeline explosion of compressed CO2 which disabled vehicles in the area and caused 45 people to have sudden, severe lung problems that required hospitalization.

Come to this program to learn more about the risks.
