DESCRIPTION:Caitlin Hunter\, of PPGNY in Ithaca\, is testifying on behalf of PPGNY on August 23rd in support proposing a package of legislation around transgender rights and healthcare. PPGNY would LOVE for League members to show our support in person! \nThis package is made up of: \n\nA Resolution\nDeclaring the City of Ithaca a Safe Haven for Gender-Affirming Healthcare through Adoption of a Gender-Affirming Healthcare Policy:\nThis resolution would declare the city of Ithaca a Safe Haven for Gender-Affirming Healthcare and would ensure that healthcare providers and individuals do not face punishment for seeking or providing Gender-Affirming Healthcare.\nAn Ordinance\nAmending the Ithaca Municipal Code to include “Protection of Transgender and Gender Rights”:\nThis ordinance would protect gender-affirming care and the right to seek gender-affirming care. It would also prevent the city of Ithaca from using resources from detaining persons seeking gender-affirming care.\n\nBoth pieces of legislation can be forwarded to interested members. \nThe committee will be meeting on August 23th at 6pm on the 3rd floor of City Hall – 108 E. Green Street in Ithaca. \nIf you would like to speak at the meeting please arrive AT LEAST five minutes BEFORE the meeting to sign up for Public Comment. Additionally\, the meeting will be held through Zoom if you would like to participate in that way – the information can be forwarded to you.

DESCRIPTION:Caitlin Hunter\, of Planned Parenthood of Greater NY (PPGNY)\, invites the League of Women’s Voters to join with Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Action Fund on our Congressional Day of Accountability on Friday August 25th.   \nThe Ithaca chapter of PPGNY will be going to Binghamton to hold our NY Representative in Congress\, Marc Molinaro\, accountable for his votes surrounding the National Defense Authorization Act\, which limited military personal and their families from being able to access abortion care and gender-affirming health care. \nIn addition\, PPGNY will be demanding that Molinaro vote in favor of the Women’s Health Protection Act. \n

DESCRIPTION:August 26\, otherwise known as Women’s Equality Day\, marks the anniversary of the certification of the 19th amendment\, which granted some women the right to vote. \nYet today\, women have fewer rights than they’d had in decades. To recognize this\, we acknowledge Women’s Inequality Day\, uniting to demand that lawmakers restore and protect our rights by: \n\nPassing voting rights legislation;\nAdding the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution; and\nRestoring reproductive rights to women and those who can become pregnant.
