DESCRIPTION:On Thursday July 28\, from 9 am to 6:00 pm\, the League of Women Voters of Tompkins County (LWVTC\,) and the Tompkins County Library (TCPL) will be Registering Voters outside the Library. \nThis is your opportunity to Register to Vote\, change your address\, apply for an absentee ballot\, and learn more about the Elections taking place. \nOn August 23 there will be a SPECIAL ELECTION to fill the Congressional seat vacated by Tom Reed in the old district\n23. There are two candidates\, Max Della Pia\, Democrat\, and Joseph Sempolinski\, Republican. All Tompkins County registered voters\, whether they have a party affiliation or not\, can vote in this election. Tompkins County voters will be given a ballot just for that election. The winner of the Special Election will immediately become our Congressional representative in the US House of Representatives for the old district 23 UNTIL the term expires on 1/3/23. \nAlso on August 23 there will be a PRIMARY ELECTION for State Senator in our new district 52 and for Congress in our new district 19. These races will be on a different ballot\, and only Tompkins County voters registered as Democrat can vote. \nWinners of the primary election will run in the GENERAL ELECTION on November 8\, together with Republican and third party candidates. To better understand this important issue\, the League of Women Voters through its local chapters in Cortland and Tompkins counties will present a program on the above topic at 7 pm on Thursday\, January 13\, 2022. \nSpeaker Irene Weiser\, Coordinator of Fossil Free Tompkins\, will cover the basics of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies and how the energy appetite of some forms can threaten to derail achievement of NYS climate goals. DESCRIPTION:League of Women Voters of Tompkins County Co-sponsors Virtual Candidate Forums for the Danby Democratic Primary Elections\, Saturday June 5th at 3:30 pm. \nTogether with the Danby Community Council\, LWVTC co-sponsored two Candidate Forums for the Danby Democratic Primary Elections being held on June 22nd\, for two positions on the Town Council\, and the position of Town Highway Superintendent. \nA recording of the candidate forum is available here. \nThe Forum was held over Zoom from 3:30 to 5:00 pm on Saturday\, June 5th\, starting with the candidates for Town Council and following with the candidates for Town Highway Superintendent. LWVTC moderated the Forum following League guidelines. \nCandidates for two Town Council seats are H.
